Making mask-wearing ‘optional’ puts all of us at risk

To the Editor:

We in The Villages have managed to prevent widespread virus infections because we have followed the practice of social distancing and masks. Making mask-wearing optional puts all of us at risk. It takes only one unmasked person to infect another or to infect a whole crowd. Compared with severe illness and death, wearing a mask is a minor inconvenience.
