Suspect arrested in theft of thousands of dollars worth of dimmer switches at Home Depot

Alan Tracey

A suspect has been arrested in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of dimmer switches at Home Depot.

The suspect – described as an “older white male” wearing what appeared to be a New York Mets hat – originally entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake and left with several dimmer switches, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The man returned to the store on March 15 and pushed out the door a shopping cart filled with $2,587 worth of dimmer switches for which he did not pay. He returned March 20 and was recognized by a store associate. However, he left before she could make a positive identification.

He returned March 27 and made off with $1,518 worth of dimmer switches.

A loss prevention officer at Home Depot discovered that the suspect, identified as 72-year-old Alan Tracey, was being sought in several other similar thefts throughout Central Florida.

The native New Yorker was arrested Sunday on warrants charging him with multiple counts of grand theft. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $8,000 bond.
