A Michigan sex offender was nabbed on a stolen motorcycle in Lady Lake.
Matthew Haight, 34, was riding the Suzuki motorcycle at 7:47 p.m. Monday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Griffin View Drive when a Lake County sheriff’s deputies noticed that the motorcycle had a homemade plastic license plate. Haight’s girlfriend was traveling on the motorcycle as a passenger, according to an arrest report.
Haight claimed he had recently obtained the motorcycle in a trade, but the deputy noticed the motorcycle had no ignition and instead had “just a bunch of wires taped together.” A check revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen in Orlando. The deputy also found that Haight was wanted on a felony warrant out of Marion County.
A backpack was found to contain marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Haight was convicted in 2006 in Osceola County, Mich. on a third degree charge of criminal sexual contact involving a victim between the age of 13 and 15.
He was arrested on charges of vehicle theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $5,500 bond.
