Summerfield woman with hefty criminal record sought in home burglary

Shellby Lynne Hunley

Marion County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a 23-year-old Summerfield woman who is wanted for grand theft and burglary.

Shellby Lynne Hunley is accused of breaking into a home and stealing more than $10,000 worth of items. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods spoke about Hunley during his “Wanted by Woods Wednesday” feature on Facebook.

“What makes you think you are entitled to someone else’s belongings?” Wood asked Hunley. “Let me make this clear – you are not!”

Woods added that Hunley is “entitled” to a stay in the Marion County Jail and encouraged her to turn herself in. He asked those with information about Hunley’s whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers of Marion County at (352) 368-STOP and reference 20-38 in their tips. He pointed out that if a tip leads to an arrest, the person reporting the information could be eligible for a cash reward.

Hunley is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been arrested in March for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), retail petit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She also was arrested in May 2018 with a man at the Publix grocery store in Belleview after a planned shoplifting turned into a violent confrontation.

All told, Hunley has been held in the Marion County Jail seven times since March 2015 on a variety of charges. Those include retail petit theft, larceny, grand theft from a person 65 years of age or older, possession of Fentanyl, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription (Alprazolam).
