Reader from the Bronx offers his take on infamous video

To the Editor:

Having looked at the video of the friendly, patriotic happy birthday parade of more than 600 golf carts supporting our president I don’t think your paper or the media have been fair to either President Trump or the man who slipped up responding in a knee jerk manner to a chorus of “F..yous”, “You’re a Nazi” and “Where’s your white hood?” The news sells because it is scandalous, not honest.
First, President Trump’s tweet: The beginning of the video shows a happy flag waving group singing Happy Birthday to our President. That is probably as far as Mr. Trump watched then tweeted back his thanks not knowing what went on further into the video. Honestly, I didn’t hear it on my second try while showing it to my wife even though I was telling her to listen for it.
The man who is being vilified: if you watch the video a few times, by far the most offensive things said were by the obviously troubled woman in black, Sharon S., screaming  “f.. yous” and “Nazi” in the face of every smiling driver going past even chasing them down the street. The man behind her is yelling “Where’s your white hood?” in the same manner. The vilified man driving by was being tormented by insane verbal assaults and in a moment of verbal tennis responds very quickly “white power” to the man screaming about a “white hood.” Unlike the people screaming and repeating obscenities at each cart, I am certain that this man is an upstanding wonderful person who feels bad for a response that he wishes he could have thought out before he said it. Is there one human on earth who hasn’t had such regrets?
Give the guy a break and God Bless America.
