To the Editor:
This election season sees once again the ascending cry that “every vote cast should count!”
I disagree. Let’s instead replace that with the more substantive mantra that “Every lawful/legal vote cast should count!”
One can read the excuses of people who wish to vote but for some reason or other cannot obtain a proper ID. The elections are placed two years apart. If one cannot secure the proper ID between elections I should think that demonstrates a lack of responsibility. This should also carry over to absentee ballots. When requested, a voter would provide their number on their issued ID card. This would address the concerns of some that one party or the other relies on the absentee ballot to affect elections.
If asked, all may agree that our elections must be honest. If this is the intent why then are some pushing for non-lawful voters to be able to circumvent the system? Being honest is like being pregnant. You either are, or are not!
