To the Editor:
In District 5 the anonymous compliant system is no more. I felt that it served one important purpose, it kept any anger or ill will that would be or might be directed toward the person(s) who inquire about a possible infraction and placed it on the judgment/enforcement activity, the CDD whose job it is to
(1) determine if an infraction has occurred and if so
(2) take remedial action. I suspect the immediate reaction of any homeowner when informed that they have an infraction now would be: “who reported me”; not “well I knew it was in violation but hoped I would not be caught.” Will the person with the infraction seek retribution? It would be interesting if the CDD 5 would keep track of folks who report violations and if they then also become a target of reporting retribution.
I guess the unintended consequence will be either no one reports anyone for anything and community standards degrade over time or everyone reports on each other and CDD 5 has above average compliance. It will be interesting to see how it turns out over the next year.
