Last week, Senator Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrat Members filibustered and blocked a vote on legislation offered by Republicans that would have:
- extended additional federal unemployment insurance,
- provided more PPP assistance for small businesses,
- given more funding for schools and universities to reopen, and
- allowed for more money to go toward testing and vaccine development.
Democrats do not oppose any of these policies, but still blocked this bill in an effort to secure far-left agenda items that are unrelated to addressing the challenges Americans are facing because of the coronavirus.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said that she believes “nothing” is better than “something,” and has also blocked efforts to pass a bill that would have bipartisan support and would allow small businesses and workers to access unused PPP funds. She continues to hold that aid hostage for her partisan wish list.
