A teenager was arrested with marijuana after a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation in Wildwood.

Sydney Nicole Franz, 18, of Sumterville, was a passenger in a blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo at about 2 p.m. Saturday traveling west on Cleveland Avenue in the area of Stanley Avenue when an officer noticed the driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The driver, who was operating the vehicle on a learner’s permit, told the police officer the seatbelt was not functioning properly.

The officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A search turned up a plastic bag containing marijuana and a black grinder. They were found in a tan backpack on the passenger side floorboard where Franz had been seated. She declined to speak with police. The driver would not identify the owner of the items.

Franz was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
