Wildwood commissioners approved a site plan Monday night for the 244-unit Peppertree Terrace Apartments on U.S. 301 contingent on resolution of outstanding issues.
Coupled with the the 300-unit PepperTree Apartments, built in 2011 by a different developer, the new 12-acre project would nearly double the number of apartments along Pepper Tree Lane.
Peppertree Terrace Apartments, built on land originally intended for commercial development, will be arranged in six buildings of no more than 32 units each around a storm water pond. The project will feature two pet parks, a walking trail, pool, clubhouse and parking.
Two driveways will provide access from the east and southwest sides. The developer, Wildwood Villages Apartments, has two years to begin construction and will be responsible for a 40-foot extension of the northbound left turn lane on U.S. 301. Traffic signals also may be installed at Pepper Tree Lane.
Earlier this month, Special Magistrate Grant Watson recommended site plan approval at a meeting of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board. Last fall, commissioners approved a land use plan amendment to allow the project after it was reviewed by the state.
The original PepperTree Apartments has been one of the few affordable apartment communities in the Wildwood area. Now, Peppertree Terrace Apartments is one of several apartment projects planned or under construction including Wildwood Preserve on Powell Road across from Millennium Park, where 126 units are planned.
At Monday’s meeting, commissioners also approved five final plats for neighborhoods with more than 300 home sites in the villages of Fenney and Southern Oaks.
