Villager rolls three strikes to win Senior Shootout title at Fiesta Bowl

A Villager rolled three strikes this weekend to claim victory at the Senior Shootout at Fiesta Bowl in The Villages.

Ron Nazzaro finished with 214 to capture the title.

Eighty bowlers started the day with 24 of them being Super Seniors, of which only eight made the natural first cut of 627 meaning, four Super Seniors were invited to continue into the second round.

In the final round shootout, Rich Garner of Hudson took the reins with a four bagger in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th frames, but a pocket 7-10 spit in the 9th and a missed spare in the 10th left Garner with 204, derailing his effort to win his second event this season.

Chuck Richardson of The Villages then took over the lead. With a double in the 9th and first ball in the 10th, Richardson looked solid until his 11th shot ran high leaving him the Big 4. Needing 3 of the 4 or better to assure a tie or the win, the 2 count left him with 213, opening the door slightly for Nazzaro to sneak in. Needing all three in the 10th, Nazzaro was up to the task and tossed three solid strikes to finish with 214, capturing his first Senior Shoot Out title.

For the win, Nazzaro took home the winner’s share, a paid entry into the July 2021 event, a champion’s shirt and is automatically eligible for the season championship in August 2021.

The next event will be held on July 17 at Fiesta Bowl, (open to all bowlers age 55 & older) followed the next Saturday, July 24 for the annual Non-Winners event (open to only bowlers who have competed in at least one event of the 2020-21 season and have not won an event in the past 10 years.)
