To the Editor:
As of 7/26/2021 the CDC guidelines data verified that “symptomatic and Covid-19 related hospitalizations or fatal vaccine breakthrough cases reported to the CDC” were 4,641 and 934 respectively. Considering that over 163 million people were fully vaccinated at that time, this is great news for everyone who is vaccinated. (Of course it’s heartbreaking news for the afflicted) This is very dramatic data that should encourage many more people to get the vaccine. (wish the CDC promoted this info more effectively) Plus the CDC guidelines imply that Covid-19 recovery cases are also a significant positive. (A negative test or verified Covid-19 recovery allowed re-entry to the U.S.) The last guideline bullet point stated that after you are fully vaccinated you can return to your usual activities as they were before the pandemic.
Then, the next day 7/27/2021, the CDC guidelines indicated that regardless of being fully vaccinated, everyone needs to wear a a mask again. They based this change on their review and evaluation of “unpublished” data as well as data from their traditional, real time partners. It’s a complete 180 degree reversal from the previous day. Why? Are the tests we are using unreliable? Is the new guideline gross incompetence? Could this new guideline be the result of political corruption? Why would anyone want to get vaccinated now? Relying on the “verified” data vs. the “unpublished” data looks like the way to go. Get vaccinated, especially if you are vulnerable or have others close to you who are. If you want to wear a mask being fully vaccinated, go for it. If you choose not to be vaccinated, so be it. Live your own life in freedom and take personal responsibility for your own risks as you choose. If you are afraid of becoming infected or infecting others, do what you think is necessary for you. Just don’t attempt to manipulate complete control of my freedoms through government caveats by fear mongering and incessant, unsubstantiated, politically biased propaganda.
