A car wash bandit is back behind bars after violating his probation.
John Dyson, 36, who has been living with his aunt in Ocklawaha, was booked without bond last week at the Lake County Jail. He was taken into custody at the Marion County Jail where he had been held since his May 9 arrest by Marion County sheriff’s deputies. He had fled when deputies tried to pull him over and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was summoned to search for him. That arrest was considered a violation of his Lake County probation.
Dyson had been placed on probation following a string of car wash burglaries.
Dyson was arrested in January 2019 after a theft was reported at the Super Wash on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake. He was also arrested in the theft of $500 in quarters from Quality Car Wash in Summerfield, causing $3,000 in damage at the Splash and Dash car wash in Ocala and inflicting damage to equipment at Baseline Car Wash in Ocala, after attempting to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry it open.
A probation violation report made it clear that his criminal activity has been fueled by drug use.
“It is clear the offender needs help to stop his illicit drug use,” the probation officer noted in the report.
