A husband was arrested after an alleged attack on his wife who had ordered him to leave their home at the Rolling Acres Apartments in Lady Lake.
Jason Rafael Smith, 36, is free on $10,000 bond following his arrest this past Saturday on a felony charge of domestic battery by strangulation.
His wife said that she and the Georgia native had been involved in a verbal altercation on Sept. 1 when she ordered him to pack his belongings and leave, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She tried to walk away, but he grabbed her by the arms and threw her on the bed. While she was on the bed, he began choking her, the report said. She could not breathe and feared she would pass out.
He fled in a 2015 Chevy Tahoe prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Smith was arrested three days later when he returned to the apartment.
