Carol Szuch

Carol SzuchCarol O’Connor Curran Szuch passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 in The Villages, FL. Carol was born on December 19, 1937, in Dumont, NJ to Mary Mildred (nee Fearson) and Stephen Chapman O’Connor.

Carol leaves behind 5 children; daughter Carol-Sue and her husband Mike, son Robert and his wife Julia, son Kevin (pre-deceased), son Michael and his wife Caroline, daughter Sharon, step-son Jon Szuch, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and sister Jane Doering. Carol was like a second mother to Julia (Straub) Savarese and Gilbert Straub, the children of her life-long dearest friend, Pat Harrington. She grew up in Bergenfield, NJ and went to St. Cecelia’s Catholic High School. After high school graduation she took the train daily, from NJ into Manhattan, to train to become a legal secretary. She worked for many years in law offices until she launched a career with IBM.

Carol was very interested in helping others, including her volunteer work with the Charlotte Newcomers Club, the Charlotte Rescue Mission and then helping to re-purpose clothing for women who were stepping back into the career world. After moving to The Villages, she became very active in bridge, mahjong and the Embroidery Club.

She was a calm, warm and insightful person who could be counted on to keep a cool head and provide a strong shoulder. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

No service will be held at this time, but a gathering is planned for after COVID 19 concerns subside. Donations can be made to the MS Society.
