A sex offender from Iowa was arrested after failing to register his phone number with local authorities.

Gary Eugene Evans, 37, of Wildwood, was booked Monday without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center after he failed to report his cell phone number.

Evans, who goes by the alias “Gary Bean,” was convicted of sexual abuse in 2004 in Polk County, Iowa. The Des Moines, Iowa native also was convicted in 2018 in Marion County with failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

Evans was arrested last year after it was discovered he was not staying at the Days Inn in Wildwood where he had claimed he had been registered.
