A Wildwood Middle High School student was arrested after a gun was found in his vehicle in the school’s parking lot.
The school’s principal suspected that 18-year-old James Robert Keene was under the influence of narcotics and that led to the discovery of a shotgun Thursday morning in his vehicle parked in the school parking lot, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The gun was identified as a Sears 12-gauge shotgun, model 10140. The gun was located in a compartment under the backseat. It was not loaded.
Keene said he had been “shooting with his friends and forgot to take it out of his vehicle,” the report said.
He was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a firearm on school property. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
