Two homeless people were arrested with drugs after they were spotted walking on a busy roadway.
Joseph Percy Lewis, 40, and Tiffany Litty Ann Bjork, 28, were walking Saturday afternoon at Orange Street and U.S. Hwy. 27/441, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
They were in violation of a Florida State Statute “which clearly states when practical, and no sidewalk is provided, pedestrians must walk alongside the left side of the roadway such that traffic will approach them from the front,” the officer wrote in the report.
The officer approached the pair out of concern for their safety.
A K-9 unit was summoned to the scene and the dog alerted on bags which had been carried by the pair. Bjork was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Lewis was found to be in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.
Both were taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond for each was set at $3,000.
