
A witness to a bottle-throwing incident helped police apprehend a reckless driver.
A woman called 911 on Tuesday after witnessing a driver throw a bottle from his vehicle while it was traveling in the area of Lake Square Mall in Leesburg, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. The woman said the man was driving recklessly. She pulled up next to the man’s vehicle and blew her horn at him. He ignored her.
Leesburg police were unable to locate the vehicle, but Fruitand Park police began pursuing the it when it reached the city limits. The driver turned from U.S. Hwy. 27/441 onto County Road 466A. The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop in the parking lot of Family Dollar, but the driver kept going.
The driver, later identified as 41-year-old Keith Auking Banner, finally stopped when he reached his parents’ home at 505 Lewis Road in Fruitland Park. The officer found that Lewis has had multiple suspensions of his driver’s license as well as five prior convictions for driving while license suspended.
He was arrested on third degree felony charge of driving while license suspended. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $5,000 bond.
