Former championship golf course worker offers his perspective

To the Editor:

I lived in The Villages for 13 years and worked on three different championship courses during those years. I truly believe the greens are plugged/spiked and sanded way too often. Yes, it must be done but with the amount of play those greens get, they never can recover, besides our weather. This is not a golf course up north that gets less play and more time to recover.
I moved two years ago to Ocala to a small gated community with one course. These greens are in great shape always except during maintenance time.
With all the different companies running the course and one person telling them when and what to do, things are never going to change in The Villages.
