The disc golf course at Lake Okahumpka Park will be temporarily closed until Friday, June 13 as construction crews work to expand the course.
As directed by the county, crews plan to expand the existing nine-hole disc golf course into an 18-hole course, improving the overall user experience at the park. Additional course enhancements will include two baskets per hole, new golf tees and concrete pads.
“The expansion project supports Sumter County’s ongoing commitment to providing the most efficient, effective and responsive services to our growing community,” said Freddie Fudge, Sumter County’s facilities and parks manager. “We hope the course improvements will encourage residents to get active and make memories at our park.”
Disc golf is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. By investing in an upgraded and expanded disc golf course, Sumter County is not just improving a park, it is creating a space where more residents can get outside, stay active and connect with others in a fun, low-cost and inclusive sport.
It is a family friendly, ecofriendly activity that requires minimal gear but delivers maximum fun, making it the perfect way to enjoy the Florida outdoors all year long.
This expansion is more than just extra holes; it is a step forward in supporting healthier lifestyles, building community and keeping local parks engaging for all ages.
Rankel Stillwagon Contracting is partnering with the county to complete the course expansion.
