The Brownwood Hotel & Spa will require yet another visit from a health inspector after a follow-up inspection revealed that multiple coolers are still out of order.

An inspector returned to the hotel at 3003 Brownwood Blvd. on Thursday, June 4, to check on violations discovered during a problematic initial inspection the previous week. Thursday’s visit resulted in an administrative status of “Follow-up Inspection Required.”

During the initial visit, a broken reach-in cooler at the breakfast station forced management to throw out yogurt, cut tomatoes, liquid eggs, sour cream and half-and-half that had reached unsafe temperatures. Fortunately, no additional food had to be discarded during Thursday’s follow-up visit, as the inspector noted the broken coolers were completely empty.

According to the report, the hotel was granted a time extension to fix the ongoing equipment issues. A manager told the inspector that parts for the coolers have been ordered and they should be repaired by next week.

A time extension was also granted for an intermediate violation regarding the hotel’s vacuum-sealing process. During the initial inspection, it was discovered that the establishment had been performing reduced oxygen packaging on raw fish, cooked pork, cooked chicken and cooked beef without a state-approved Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan.

The inspector noted Thursday that the hotel’s HACCP plan has now been received by the state and is currently awaiting approval.
