A lady driver was hospitalized after crashing into a pillar at a shopping plaza in The Villages.

The elderly female driver at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday pushed the wrong pedal and crashed into the pillar at Solar Nails at Colony Plaza, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital. She was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.

The nail salon continued to operate after the accident and subsequent cleanup. Sakura Japanese Restaurant, located next door, also was operating after the mishap.
