An 84-year-old Villager was arrested in an alleged theft at a shop at Lake Sumter Landing.
The owner of Lime Light Boutique had been on the lookout for Lillian Giannuzzi and had her photo on her “Wall of Thieves” due to previous suspected thefts, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The owner also operates a shop at Brownwood Paddock Square.
Giannuzzi entered the store shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday and indicated she needed to make a return. While the clerk processed the return, Giannuzzi reached into a bowl, snatched a pair of Brighton earrings and put them in her purse, according to the arrest report.
The store owner provided deputies with Giannuzzi’s license plate number and surveillance footage of the alleged theft.
Giannuzzi was arrested shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday at her home at 2445 Greenhill Trail in the Village of Tall Trees. She was booked on a charge of petit theft at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $500 bond.
