Belleview man jailed after attempted abduction of 10-year-old girl at Lake Okahumpka Park

Kevin Ramsey

A 60-year-old Belleview man has been jailed on $253,000 bond after the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl Friday evening at Lake Okahumpka Park in Wildwood.

The girl said a man had approached her, grabbed her right arm and attempted to pull her with him. She struck him, broke free and ran to her home a short distance away, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He initially ran after her, but then retreated to his tan vehicle. The girl suffered a minor injury as a result of the altercation.

Deputies located Kevin Ramsey in a different area of the park, wearing clothing that matched the girl’s description. He was in a tan 2002 Chevy Malibu four-door passenger car.

Ramsey has been charged with attempted kidnapping, simple battery and possession of marijuana.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has received no other similar calls; however, they are asking anyone with unreported encounters to contact the office. The sheriff’s office is reaching out statewide to other agencies to see if the suspect fits the description of any other abductions or abduction attempts. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Nick Torchia at (352) 793- 2621 or to remain anonymous, contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
