Central Florida League Opens Fall 2017 Season

This past Tuesday saw the Irma delayed opening of the Central Florida League fall 2017.

Humana started with a 10-8 victory over Synergy Wealth.

Humana was led by three hits from Tom McGann. Ed Chirumbolo, Bob Roth, Dave Hinkley, Dave Oatley, Don Melcher, Mark Rich, and Vin Stebbins all had two hits as Humana showed a balanced offense. Synergy Wealth had three hits by Dale Neff, including a triple. Jim Creed also smacked a triple in Synergy’s 5 run fifth inning. John Reedy ended the inning with a two run home run. Paul Robinson had two hits in the loss.

IHOP started early with two five run innings and held on to defeat Softball’s R Game 15-12.

IHOP got three hits from Chuck Bowman, Randy Bowen, Rich Bergman, and Randy Godbold. Chipping a pair of hits were: Maury Fjestad, Gary Roth, Bob Jacques, Wayne Mallory, and John Charles. Softball’s R Game had three hits by Don Evans, Pat Rice, and Scott Marshall. Marshall came up a home run short of the cycle. Adding two hits each were: Ed Krisha, John Buchanan, Ray Bedford, and Jim Stencil.

FBC Mortgage bested Gators Brownwood 19-9 behind the three hit day of Rocky Spottswood, Howard Charney, Tim Wilcox, John Leone, Ed Joseph, and Peter Daub.

Marty Berger drove in five runs with a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly. Bob Ivison drove in two runs with his pair of hits and John Hoover’s double drove in two more runs. Gators had three hits by lead off batter Charles Clare and Dave Blandford. Jim Lambert drove in four runs with a single and a triple, and Vinny Caso had a pair of hits in the loss.

Paul Davis Restorations held Fross & Fross scoreless for the first three innings and won 16-5.

Mark Isom, Jeff Bekasi, and Jim Weigand had four hits for the winners. Mike Jeffries drove in four runs with a single and a pair of triples. Bob Buchanan smacked a pair of doubles and a single. Conrad Strassle, Art Anton, Jim Moyer, and Jeff Stein all had two hits in the win. Fross & Fross got on the board in the fourth as the first three batters stroked singles. Following a double play the next three batters had hits with John Gouin driving in the third run with a double. Fross scored two runs in the sixth as the same batters, Wayne Grunewald, George Loew, Jim Wheeler, and Alan Zahm got hits.

Palm Ridge Dental scored in five of six at bats and bested the Firecrackers 8-6.

Palm Ridge was led by Ed DeMaio, who had a double, a triple, and a two run homer. He was intentionally walked his last at bat. Don Winstead, Gary Nicolay, Joe Mayer, and Bruce Harlan had a pair of hits in the win. The Firecrackers got a pair of hits from Manny Sanchez, Tim Carroll, Jack Meagher, and sub, Bill Naasz. Naasz had a solo homer to start the top of the fourth inning.

Arden Jewelers held off a late surge by Babiarz Law to win 16-14.

Arden had perfect day at plate performances from Bill Reed (4 hits), Rod Severson, Mark Hildebrand, Doug St.Andrews, and Paul Isenberg (3 hits). Don Mulneix and Jim White had a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs each. Babiarz Law’s Rick Murgittroyd was perfect four for four hits, while Ken Link had three hits. Adding a pair of hits in the loss were: Ed Moriarity, Tom Brock, Dennis Bauch, Carl McWilliams, Jim Crabtree, John Plunkard, and sub, Ed Krisha. Babiarz scored six runs in the top of the seventh to get within two runs of tying the game; but, came up short.

Serious top-down management failure in The Villages
