Central Florida League Summer 2018 Highlights Week Ten

And the Champs are Gators Brownwood!

The regular season for the Central Florida League came to an end on Tuesday and Gators Brownwood won the battle for first place by besting IHOP 12-7.

IHOP scored first with two runs as Manny Sanchez, Ken Atkinson, Don Mulneix, and Mike Labetti singled. They didn’t score again until the sixth when Rick Fredieu drove in Tom Bortle with a sacrifice fly and Don Mulneix singled to drive in Sanchez. The top of the seventh saw Carlos Lopez and Paul Justice single followed by a double by Rick Murgittroyd and a single by Tom Bortle to score three runs. The Gators scored four runs ins the third as Bud Sheerin led off with a single. Charlie Clare and Pat Perkins also singled with Sheerin scoring. Howard Charney doubled
to score Clare and Tim Wilcox drove in the last two runs with a single. In the fifth Charney started the scoring with a solo homer. Wilcox, Paul Isenberg, Chuck Bowman, Pete Rose, and Jim Rogers followed with singles scoring three more runs. In the sixth the Gators answered IHOP’s two runs as Pat Perkins hit a two run homer and Charney had his second solo homer of the game.

Team Koller overwhelmed the Fross & Fross squad 19-8.

Bill Sass led the offensive outburst with five hits. Bill Reed, Don Melcher, and Jim Joseph had four hits. George Kennedy drove in three runs with three hits as did sub, Jim Wiegand, who had a pair of doubles, and Mark Goodwin with a pair of singles. Fross’s only significant threat was a five run fifth inning as Al Mahar led off with a single and Al Deibler and John Wyks followed with singles. Howard Charney drove in two runs with a double. Two more scored on a defensive miscue on a hit by John Barracato and John Kushner sent in the last run with a sacrifice fly.

Palm Ridge Dental won the final game of the day 16-14 over Synergy Wealth.

Ron LeBeuf had a double and two triples to drive in four runs for Palm Ridge. Jack Nagle and Mike Jeffries also had three hits. Jim Boerman, Jim Morton, Ed Krisha, Craig Dahlquist, Mark Isom, and Dan Kincaid added a pair of hits each for the winners. Synergy got four hits from Ron Young and three each by Ed Haith , Terry Baughman, and Gary Coleman. Bob Kelly drove in three runs with a pair of hits and a pair of sacrifice flies.

Next week will see the first round of the Joel Beason Memorial Tournament.
