Chevy Blazer may have been racing against man killed in fatal crash

Rufus Jim Donely

The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for another vehicle that may have been connected to a crash that killed an Ocala man in April.

Rufus Jim Donely, 44, was at the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro April 21 on County Road 316 when he lost control due to the high rate of speed, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Donely’s vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree and separated into two pieces. He was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he later died from injuries suffered in the crash.

FHP investigators now believe Donely may have been involved in a race before the crash, possibly against a Chevy Blazer. They are requesting anyone with information or photos of the incident – before, during or after the crash – to contact Cpl. Mark Baker at 352-512-6645 or Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP (7867).
