Choke hold battle leaves man disoriented and Summerfield woman behind bars

Kattyria Vidal

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a Summerfield home late Wednesday night and when they arrived, a “disoriented” man was waiting to talk to them.

The man told the deputies that he had arrived home earlier in the evening and 23-year-old Kattyria Vidal had started arguing with him. He said he attempted to go through her phone and she “became physically aggressive” with him, a sheriff’s office report states.

The man claimed that Vidal wrapped her hands and left arm around his neck and he told her that he was “starting to feel weak.” He said a struggle ensued and he eventually was able to break free and go to his parents’ house to call for help, the report says, adding that the deputy saw red scratch marks on both sides of the man’s neck.

Vidal told deputies that a verbal alteration broke out when the man attempted to take her phone. She said it turned physical when he pushed her and she “placed him in a choke hold,” the report says.

Vidal, who didn’t show any signs of injury, eventually became “irritated” during questioning and said, “Fine, just lock me up.” She was then transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with domestic battery by strangulation. She was released Thursday on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
