Consider adding seatbelts to your golf cart

To the Editor:

Driving carefully is not always going to prevent you from being involved in an accident, because unpredictable situations can occur in a split second. Being thrown from a golf cart often results in severe injuries or death. This seems to be happening too often. A simple lap seat belt should prevent being thrown from the cart, and injuries would generally be less severe.
Although using belts while playing on a golf course would be inconvenient, doing so while traveling anywhere else on The Villages trails makes sense.
The Villages is unique to other retirement communities due to its huge size, numerous roads with automobile traffic and the vast number of carts and trails that intersect those roads. Consider taking that extra precaution by adding seat belts to your cart. Cost for the belts is reasonable. Cost of a life is precious.
