Eugene L. Baines

Eugene L. Baines, 86, of Wildwood, FL, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018. Mr. Baines was born January 1, 1932 in Halifax County, VA to John G. and Mary (Midkiff) Baines.

Gene was a Master Machinist for the Fairfax County School Board for 29 years.

After moving to this area in 1995 from Warrenton, VA, Gene belonged to the First Baptist Church of Belleview where he served as a deacon, was on the building and grounds committee and was a choir member.

He moved to Wildwood and served in the choir at Village of Faith Baptist Church, and is presently a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Oxford. Gene loved being with his family and friends and playing music. He played Bluegrass and Gospel at church, nursing homes, retirement centers and private functions. He provided sound systems for various events and was talented on the banjo as well as the guitar and bass. He enjoyed traveling and going to Bluegrass Festivals. Gene also enjoyed HO Scale Model Trains and NASCAR Racing, he owned a race car and raced in the late 50’s and 60’s.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret; son, Donald Baines of Appomattox, VA; daughter and her husband, Doris & Jim Fenner of Wildwood; sister, Carlyle Pillow of Phenix, VA; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, 2018, with visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Oxford. Entombment will follow the service in Highlands Memorial Park, Ocala.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 8015 SE 180th ST, CR 102, Oxford, FL 34484.
