The Villages Public Safety Fire Rescue and the Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida (CILNCF), are hosting a free emergency preparedness conference for people with disabilities. There will be a variety of vendors and speakers presenting about how to be prepared for any type of emergency. Individuals will also be there to assist anyone who needs help with programming weather radios. In addition, ASL Interpreters will be provided.
The Villages Public Safety Fire Rescue was established in 1999 to protect the residents of The Villages. When established, The Villages was a small retirement community in Northern Sumter County and Northeast Lake County. At the time, the department consisted of one fire station, nine firefighters, and one Fire Chief. Today, The Villages Fire Rescue has the honor of serving the world’s largest retirement community and protecting a population demographic that spans all ages.
The Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida (CILNCF) is a private, not-for-profit organization, headquartered in Gainesville, Florida. The Center’s mission is to empower people with disabilities to exert their individual right to live as independently as possible, make personal life choices and achieve full community inclusion. Our organization provides services to individuals on a cross-disability basis and is consumer-controlled, having at least 51% of people with disabilities comprising both the governing board of directors and staff.
