Fatal crash snarls traffic on U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg

A fatal crash snarled traffic Thursday morning on U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg.

Clarence Chappell Jr., 83, of Leesburg was transported to  Leesburg Regional Medical Center where he died of injuries suffered in the accident.

He was driving a 2005 Beige Pontiac van at 10:06 a.m. that collided with a 2003 Ford F-250 truck driven by Patrick Hill, 55, also of Leesburg.

Chappell’s van was traveling from a parking lot just south of Howard Road and crossing northbound traffic in an attempt to make a left turn to travel south on U.S. Hwy. 27 when the crash occurred, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

A passenger in Chappell’s van was also transported to LRMC.
