FB 70’s team placed second in The Vietnam Anniversary Classic

The Frankie Brin Financial 70’s softball team went to the Diamond Plex Complex in Winter Haven to play in the November 3 – 4 Florida Half Century Tournament. The November tournament was titled “The Vietnam Anniversary Classic.”

The Frankie Brin team (FB) finished the tournament in second place with a 3-1 record. On Saturday, FB defeated the Estero Bay Stingrays 18-2 and Full Count 17-2 to finish the day with a 2-0 record. On Sunday morning FB played the Florida Venom team and this turned out to be the championship game. After 3 innings FB was leading 5-3 but in the top of the 4th inning, Venom scored 3 runs to go ahead 6-5. The final score was 7-5 with the Venom winning the game and Championship. Venom held FB scoreless the last 3 innings with some good defensive play. FB defeated the Optimotion team in their last game of the day.

Leading hitters for FB were Dave Hinkley 1.000 (8 RBI’s) Charles Pope .875; Bob Roth .833; John Iorio .778; Ralph Hollis .700; and Darrel Smith .667 (6 RBI’s). Ed Krisha pitched well in all the games allowing only 10 runs. Other team members were Bob Buchanan; Steve Long; John Rebardo; Carl Roberts; Paul Preuit; and John Radscheid.
