The Villages District Office has acknowledged that subcontractors working for a FEMA-approved hauler have headed south.
The District made the admission as anger mounts over post-Hurricane Irma debris which remains uncollected in countless Villages’ driveways.
Frustrated residents began dumping debris at postal stations and recreation centers. The District is now moving to Plan B.
“It is unfortunate that our contracted company, along with most contracted companies throughout central Florida, have had their subcontractors heading south for work due to monetary reasons,” the District said in an announcement Monday afternoon.
“Although a number of Crowder-Gulf’s (CG) subcontractors have left, CG and the District have been working diligently with the District’s contractors to become eligible debris haulers and we now have backfilled a number of the vehicles that left.”
Meanwhile, regular waste hauler CH2MHill has been green-lighted to resume removal of yard waste in Community Development Districts 9 and 10, located south of County Road 466A. Damage in that part of The Villages was not as severe.
CDDs 3 and 4 will also have normal yard waste removal resume this week as storm debris will have been removed by that time.
In addition, the District acknowledged the office has been deluged with email and phone calls, and not all have been returned. Many of those callers have demanded reimbursement for waste hauling services which have not been rendered.
