Fruitland Park suspect arrested in theft of woman’s golf cart

Kalem Hicks

A 28-year-old Fruitland Park man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a woman’s golf cart.

Kalem Edward Hicks was arrested Tuesday by Lake County sheriff’s deputies on charges of burglary and grand theft.

A woman on Spring Road reported that her neighbor’s golf cart had been stolen from her home, according to an arrest report. The woman, who had been away on vacation, usually keeps an eye on her neighbor’s property. When she returned on Tuesday, she checked her neighbor’s property and found that a tan 1995 Yamaha gas-powered golf cart was missing.

Hicks had been stopped on Aug. 31 when he was spotted driving a tan golf cart at Eagles Nest Road and Skycrest Boulevard. At the time, the serial number had not been reported as stolen. Hicks was given a verbal warning and released.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $7,000.
