A 27-year-old Ocklawaha man charged in the death of a tattoo artist walking his seven-year-old daughter to a bus stop has been released on $10,000 bond.
Jeffrey Todd Kimberlin, 38, had been escorting his little girl to the bus stop at 7:21 a.m. Friday on SE 180th Avenue Road when he was struck by a 2001 Ford van driven by 27-year-old Dylan Roberts of Ocklawaha, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Roberts was arrested on a charge of driving while license suspended involving a death and driving while license suspended. He was released Saturday from the Marion County Jail.
Kimberlin was the father of four children. A popular tattoo artist, he owned and operated Pale Horse Tattoo in Ocklawaha. As news of his death spread, many of his clients were posting on social media photos of his tattoos as they mourned his sudden death.
Roberts has had multiple arrests for driving while license suspended. He has also been cited for speeding, no motor vehicle registration and careless driving. In 2010, he was arrested for possession of cannabis.
The Lake Weir High School alum also has a three-year-old son whom he has identified as his “pride and joy” among the many photos of the pair posted on his Facebook page. He has been involved in a protracted custody battle with the boy’s mother, according to Marion County Court files.
A funeral service for Kimberlin is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg, according to the Pale Horse Tattoo Facebook page. Visitation is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
