The Great Americans Alzheimer’s Awareness Photo Exhibit will open on Sunday, Nov. 11 in The Villages.
The exhibit, which features large canvas portraits of 24 great American authors, musicians, athletes, artists, entertainers and politicians who have succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia is an educational initiative of the Alzheimer’s Family Organization. It was created and sponsored by Coping with Dementia LLC and Walgreens, both of Inverness, and has spent the last year touring Citrus and Hernando county libraries, where it was viewed by more than 250,000 visitors.
The exhibit’s Villages debut will take place at an open house to which the public is invited from 2 to 4 p.m. at NeuroHealth, the offices of Dr. Jay J. Rubin, at 3365 Wedgewood Lane in The Villages. “Many have found this exhibit a moving experience. It drives home the point that dementia cuts across all levels of our society. No one is immune, no matter how famous, accomplished, successful or talented they may be. It is growing at an epidemic rate, and to confront it a greater level of public awareness is required,” Rubin said.
