Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a domestic disturbance Monday involving a firearm and a violent attack.
When deputies arrived at the home on SE 80th Court in Ocala, 36-year-old Jennifer Lynn Edens told them she had returned to the residence to gather her belongings and had been in a verbal-only altercation with a man living there.
The man, however, told deputies that Edens entered the residence and wasn’t able to open a locked bedroom door. He said that upset her and she began to yell and poke him with her finger, a sheriff’s office report states.
The man told deputies that Edens then “began punching him in the face and neck area” and then “roundhouse kicked” him in the stomach and lower groin area. The man said there was a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun on a table that “she attempted to reach for while he dialed 911.” She said, “You’ll let me get my stuff one way or another,” the report says, adding that the man secured the weapon before deputies arrived.
After being read her rights, Edens said she attempted to confront the man about a “rumor that he was doing drugs.” She said the man, who had a red bruise on his neck, walked away from her and she grabbed his arm. But she denied there was a gun involved and said she didn’t strike the man, whom she identified as a martial arts expert, the report says.
Edens was transported to the Marion County Jail and asked if she had any items on her that “she would not want to bring into the facility.” She said she did not, and a short time later, a deputy found five straws containing a brown-and-white powdery substance inside her wallet. When asked about the straws, which tested positive for methamphetamine, the woman said she was keeping them as evidence of someone else’s drug use.
Edens was charged with battery, attempting to smuggle contraband-possession of a controlled substance on jail grounds and possession of drug equipment. She was held on $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.
