Homeless man jailed after kicking police officer during botched theft

Adam Keith Burns

A homeless man was arrested after allegedly kicking a police officer during a botched theft attempted at Dollar General in Lady Lake.

The officer responded at 4:40 p.m. Thursday to the store on U.S. Hwy. 27/441, where 31-year-old Adam Keith Burns was taken into custody after kicking an officer in the shin, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. It took two officers to wrestle Burns, who appeared to be intoxicated, to the ground. He later kicked at the window of a patrol car.

Burns was found to be in possession of cough medicine and a Bic lighter taken from the store.

He was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center for an evaluation before being booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, petit theft and disorderly conduct. Bond was set at $17,500.
