Hurricane Florence evacuees get into altercation at Villages hotel

Law enforcement was called last week to an altercation involving evacuees who fled Hurricane Florence.

An employee of Marriott TownePlace Suites asked another employee to call 911 after witnessing the disturbance at about 11:30 p.m. Sept. 14 on the patio area of the hotel, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

The employee had temporarily diffused the situation, but a 39-year-old woman then walked by and punched a 29-year-old man from Havelock, N.C. in the head. She had earlier grabbed him by the neck. Police noted red marks on the man’s neck.

He refused EMS and signed a waiver of prosecution.
