Intoxicated Jersey girl arrested after candlestick attack leaves man with bloody face

Dawn Marie Papke

An intoxicated New Jersey native was arrested after allegedly attacking a man with a candlestick at her home.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 10:50 a.m. Saturday to a home on West County Road 245 in Oxford where a man said 60-year-old Dawn Marie Papke struck him in the face with a wooden candlestick, according to an arrest report. He had suffered a laceration in the middle of his face that was still bleeding when deputies arrived. He also said Papke was intoxicated from consuming too much alcohol.

The 18-inch candlestick appeared “freshly damaged” and had “several drops of blood on it,” the report said.

Papke was arrested on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated battery. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,500 bond.
