Lake City man killed in late-night crash in Columbia County

A Lake City man was killed Sunday night in a crash on State Road 47 in Columbia County.

Frederick W. Lacey, 63, was pronounced dead shortly after the 11 p.m. crash. He had been traveling south on SR 47 and was attempting to make a left turn onto SW Cates Street when his 2009 Honda Accord was hit broadside in the driver’s door by a 2003 Chevy Tahoe driven by 17-year-old Canyon R. Arganbright, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

Arganbright, of Fort White, had been traveling behind Lacey and was attempting to pass him in the northbound lane when the crash occurred. After the collision, both vehicles came to rest on the east shoulder of SR 47.

Ann S. Lacey, 61, a passenger in the Honda, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Lake City Medical Center. Arganbright also suffered minor injuries and his passenger, 16-year-old Nicholas I. Bacis, wasn’t hurt, the FHP report says.

The accident is still under investigation and it hasn’t been determined if alcohol played a factor, the report says, adding that charges are pending.
