Lake County deputy, Groveland police officer charged with failing to report suspected child sex abuse

A Lake County deputy and a Groveland police officer have been charged for failing to report allegations of child sexual abuse that ultimately led to the arrest of Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Chad Corriveau last month. Corriveau was arrested in September for sexual battery and showing obscene material to a minor after sheriff’s detectives investigated the allegations made by the underage relative.

During the course of the investigation, sheriff’s detectives learned that the trooper’s wife, Alicia Corriveau, who is a Groveland police officer, was first made aware of the allegations by the minor earlier this year. Corriveau reportedly relayed the allegations to Deputy Seth Luppino on Sept. 7. Luppino then waited 13 days before reporting the allegations.
Florida Statutes require any person who has reason to suspect that a child is being abused or neglected to immediately report the concerns.

Detectives forwarded their findings to the State Attorney’s Office and warrants were issued for Luppino and Corriveau. The warrants charged both for failing to report suspected abuse. Luppino turned himself in to the Lake County Detention Center this morning and Corriveau turned herself in to the South Lake District Office in Clermont.

Luppino was suspended last month as the investigation into his failing to report the allegations began; termination proceedings have now been initiated. He has been employed at the sheriff’s office since February 2008 and has had no prior formal disciplinary action other than a written reprimand for a minor at-fault traffic accident.
