To the Editor:
Early this month, lightning struck our flag pole and Allaire Loop’s irrigation and water main were damaged to the point it flooded our street in the Village of Fernandina.
It all started with the good work of the dispatcher. My husband called 911 and Sumter County sheriffs came within minutes along with the fire department. Community Watch blocked off the street and made sure we were informed of what was going on the entire time. He protected others so they would not walk in the water because of electricity.
All involved worked together as quickly as possible to insure the safety of all of us. There were three or four other lightning strikes so we had to wait our turn for help.
We watched as the water department worked very hard to repair the damaged pipes only to have another leak spring up under the concrete down the road. They fixed that one as well with the same professionalism. TCL landscape came and filled in the hole and replaced the sod in such a way that it amazed my husband and me. We watched as they fit the sod almost like a puzzle. What a wonderful job they did as well. We called the TCL Landscape to let the owner know that the two men did a fabulous job. Now we want everyone else to know, especially the workers involved, how we appreciate the quick and efficient job they did to restore water to us within the next day. Can you believe that? The icing on the cake was going out the next morning to watch the crew repairing the irrigation main, there was our FLAG folded up military style laying on our table as well as the Army flag folded in respect. What a great bunch of workers.
