Wildwood, Fruitland Park and Villages elementary schools will be collecting items to assist Deer Point Lake Elementary School children in the Panhandle after the area just north of Panama City was devastated by Hurricane Michael.
In addition, a team from Heritage Community Church in Fruitland Park will travel to the area to help later this week with disaster relief. The Heritage team will be working to assist First Baptist Church of Deer Point Lake that has been devastated by the hurricane.
“We will be working to shore up the church building so it can be used as a resource for the community, as well as working to secure the pastor’s home. We will then reach out to the area neighborhood, including families that have children who attend Deer Point Lake Elementary school. This is a rural community that lacks many resources. We have been told it could be weeks before this area gets electricity restored,” said Pastor Sidney Brock.
