MSNBC political commentator and senior contributing writer for The Nation Ari Berman will sign copies of his new book “Give us the Ballot” at 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble at Lake Sumter Landing.

Billed “Notable Book of 2015” by the New York Times, “Give us the Ballot” delves into American voting history in the past 50 years, mainly focusing on the 1965 Voting Rights Act and how its passage ensued an agenda to restrict voting rights.

The author brings to light that the 1965 act has not been entirely fulfilled, as he cites instances in history leading up to the present that have attempted to restrict the Voting Rights Act’s goal and shake up American democracy.

Berman has also been featured on C-Span and National Public Radio. He has been published in the New York Times and The Guardian.

The book signing will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested in attending must purchase copies at the store to receive a signed book.

Become a citizen and run to your local supervisor of elections office and register. It’s as easy as that.

Learn about this country and be informed. Remember that many governments in the world do not give their citizens that choice. We do and that’s what makes America the greatest country in the world.

We don’t need Ari to do that. Save your time and money.

Hey Ari…..I LOVE your hairstyle. Tired of seeing thin hair, short hair, grey hair and bald guys!! What’s wrong Larry, do you have hair envy/ Sad that Larry has to pick on someone’s appearance to express his leftist views.

    • Larry Ferman says

      1. Quotes are not necessary when using Ari’s name.
      2. Ya can be substituted for “you” (see how quotes work?) but generally not outside texts to your buddies.
      3. Quotes are not necessary with Big Al’s.
      4. Not great usage of the apostrophe in “Cal’s” (another example of correct quote usage!) but I’ll let it slide.
      5. There Their They’re. You mean to say “They are” (more quotes!!) so, as all second graders know, you should have used “They’re”. (quotes, quotes quotes!!)
      6. Ibid.

Let me know if you need assistance with “Your” and “You’re” or “to” and “too”. I taught second graders for decades – I can teach you too!

Tanks for the English lesson : Nicky ” I do love a Dame that is Clever, and Spunky.

There is nothing like a dame, nothing in the world, there is nothing you can name that is anything like a Dame…..although I have a feeling your fringed….Nicky

I am so excited to read this article!! I LOVE Ari Berman! I’ve read this book, and I think people, no matter if they lean left or right, will find it fascinating.

Good for B&N on a great choice for an author to have a book signing.

  5. Marsha Shearer says

Thanks B&N for the opportunity to meet the author and journalist who’s regarded as the national expert on voting rights in America! This is an award winning book and would be a wonderful gift for political junkies and history buffs as well as those who treasure this most fundamental right of all Amrtican citizens.
