New inspector general appointed by Lake County Clerk

Lake County Inspector General Terri Freeman

Gary Cooney, Lake County clerk and comptroller, has appointed Terri Freeman as inspector general for the clerk’s Office.

“The inspector general role is key within the organization,” Cooney said. “Terri’s background in accounting and auditing is extensive and will ensure thorough and objective audits are provided.”

Freeman most recently served as the vice president of internal audit at Partners Federal Credit Union. Prior to that, she held various senior level roles at the Institute of Internal Auditors and Publix Supermarkets. She is a certified public accountant in Florida, in addition to being a certified internal auditor, a certified information systems auditor, and is certified in risk management assurance. Freeman holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Valdosta State University.

The inspector general is employed by the county clerk, who is the official internal auditor for Lake County. The clerk has the authority and responsibility to conduct audits and reviews of all departments, programs and functions funded by the Board of County Commissioners.
