The Villages Musical Theater has found its Lt. Joe Cable for “South Pacific.”
David Newell is the new man, replacing Carter Poust, who is moving from The Villages and had to drop out of the cast.
“South Pacific” will be staged March 22-24, in Savannah Center.
“We believe Dave will not have any trouble playing this role,” said Director Sandie Hawthorne.
Newell has appeared in a variety of local productions, including: “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Young Frankenstein” and most recently, “Sweeney Todd.”
Newell is anxious to tackle his new role.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of one of the all-time great musicals,” he said. “If you asked me if I could have envisioned myself playing the role of Lt. Joe Cable five years ago when we purchased our first home here, I’d have said no way.
“But I’m kind of a poster child of the possibilities if you open yourself to new activities The Villages offers. I started doing musical theatre here by random chance,” and now he can’t wait to be part of “’South Pacific.’”
