Off-duty police officer stops armed robbery at Auto Zone in Clermont

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an armed robbery Tuesday at the Auto Zone located at 1726 U.S. Hwy. 27 in Clermont.

While responding, the deputies were notified by a dispatcher that off-duty Winter Garden police officer Zachary Fall had the two suspects at gunpoint.
Officer Fall told deputies that he observed the two suspects with shirts over their faces as if to conceal their identities. He also said he observed one of the suspects place a black handgun in his waistband while walking toward the front of the Auto Zone. He confronted the suspects and held them at bay until deputies arrived.
A black Sig Sauer 1911 Air Soft Pistol resembling an actual firearm was recovered. Both suspects were charged with attempted robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon.
